Thanks to the efforts of our local political representatives, plans are in place to begin construction on expansion of the intersection of Macleod Trail and Highway 22X. However, the current plans for expansion would change the current road system to close off east-bound access from Shawville Boulevard onto Highway 22X. More information can be found at http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/stmacgp.htm
The CCA has serious concerns with this plan. For anyone who has driven along Shawville Boulevard recently, whether it be for shopping, dining, or attending a hockey game at South Fish Creek, you know how congested that route already is. Under the proposed plan, anyone trying to exit the Shawnessy commercial corridor to go to Chaparral will only be able to do so via 6th Street or 162 Avenue, two already busy intersections.
If you disagree with that plan, and want the Province to design a plan that does allow for better access from the south end of Shawville Boulevard, please take some time to contact your political representatives and other involved parties and let them know. The key message is “Expand the planned access for the south end of Shawville Boulevard.” Whether it be by phone, e-mail, letter, facebook, twitter, postcard, fax or telegram, we encourage you to share your concerns with the following people:

Cindy Ady, MLA for Calgary Shaw Calgary Shaw Constituency Office |

For those interested in more pedestrian crossings for Chaparral, please see the attached 2011 Pedestrian Corridor Priority List. Unfortunately, there aren’t any intersections in Chaparral that are currently anywhere near having the ‘score’ to warrant a lit, controlled intersection. You can find Chaparral intersections listed at Rank 302, 323, 345, 425, 442, and 491.
